Cascade Communication Services provides professional demarc extension services to help your organization get connected quickly and reliably.
A demarc extension connects your organization’s internal network to a telecommunications service—such as T1, DSL, or POTS—provided by a phone company or other vendor. The demarcation point (or “demarc”) is where the provider’s service ends and your responsibility begins. To integrate this service with your network, cabling must be extended from the demarc to your building’s wiring closet or data distribution system.
Demarc extensions vary based on building layout and infrastructure needs. At Cascade Communication Services, we have extensive experience installing demarc extensions in a wide range of industries, including offices, warehouses, schools, and shopping centers.
From basic demarc extensions to full-scale network integrations, our services are tailored to fit your organization’s specific needs. Here are some examples of our most common services:
Simple Demarc Extensions
We run cable from the Minimum Point of Entry (MPOE) or Telco Closet to an equipment room or the Main Distribution Frame (MDF). Cables are tested and neatly labeled. Once we have extended the demarc to a wiring closet, your IT department can take over for the rest of the network.
Horizontal & Backbone Distribution Systems
Cascade Communications can take a demarc extension a step further and install a distribution system for a network. For larger networks, it is often necessary to create structured-cabling solutions. Our technicians can connect the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) to Intermediate Data Frames (IDF) using either 4-pair, 25-pair, 50-pair, 100-pair, 200-pair, or fiber optic cable. We can design both a horizontal distribution system (to connect the IDF to individual workstations) or a backbone distribution system that utilizes multiple vertical distributions.
Demarc Extension FAQS
If you are ordering analog telephone (POTS), T1, or DSL services, you may need an extension. When setting up your services, talk to your service provider and about where they will be installed and if you will need to extend it.
In most cases, once your services are installed, the demarcation point extension and inside wiring can be completed within a single business day. Our technicians work efficiently to ensure your network is connected quickly and with minimal disruption to your operations.
The demarcation point (or demarc) is the physical location where your service provider’s cabling connects to your building’s on-premises wiring. The point dictates who is responsible for installing or maintaining the cabling or hardware. If a problem occurs downstream from the demarc, then it is the responsibility of the inside wiring to fix the problem. If it happens upstream, it is the service provider's problem.
The MPOE is the physical location where the service providers delivers their services in a building. It is often located in the telco closet, but it can also be in other areas such as a utility room basement, or exterior wall – depending on the building layout and provider installation.
The demarcation point may be insidethe building in a shared telco closet (MDF) or it may be on the outside of the building in a weatherproof enclosure. To find it, you must locate the network interface device (NID) or smartjack. The smartjack is an advanced version of a NID or intelligent network interface device and provides diagnostic insight to the service provider.
The demarc extension is known by various names including DMARC extension, T1 extension, circuit extension, on-premises wiring, inside wiring, CPE cabling, and more.
